Research article on virtual opioid education and naloxone distribution programs, conducted with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. This research allowed us to dive deep into the literature on virtual Opioid Poisoning Education and Naloxone Distribution (OPEND) programs. Our findings highlight the potential of virtual OPEND programs to increase knowledge, decrease stigma and reduce morbidity and mortality due to opioid-related harms. These programs have the potential to be life-saving tools, particularly for populations not adequately reached by in-person OPEND interventions. The International Journal of First Aid Education (IJFAE: the First Aid Journal) disseminates scholarly and field-based works to advance the knowledge and practices of first aid, educators, and curriculum designers. Awards
The Red Cross Rescuer Award acknowledges the efforts of non-professional rescuers and off-duty first responders who go out of their way to save a life, prevent further injury and/or provide comfort to the injured. The Red Cross also recognizes children who, without training, provided help.
The Excellence in Volunteerism and Mentorship Award commemorates the legacy of long-standing volunteer Barney Chanda. Barney worked tirelessly to promote safety education, mentor others, and teach the value of volunteerism and leadership. This annual award recognizes an individual whose volunteerism and mentorship contributes to creating a sense of place, importance, and safety for their community and those around them.
